3/16/2023 0 Comments Blackmagic multidock software![]() I have a 2013 Mac Pro cylinder which has six TB2 ports - but each pair of ports share the same TB2 bus, so it's really like having three ports, each of which has two jacks. The things that really saturate a TB bus are 4k displays. But for pulling samples and audio tracks from SSD and sending audio out to an audio interface with a non-ridiculous channel count I don't think you'll have any issues. In theory, it's possible to saturate a TB1 bus if you're outputting a bazillion audio channels to a MADI auto interface AND pulling massive amounts of sample data for your Kontakt orchestral libraries from the MultiDock AND have a UAD DSP accelerator on the same bus. Its a 2012 mac mini, thats TB1 if i,m not mistaken.I think you'll be just fine. my mind is custard on this and I need 1TB of external storage for an rMBP right now how fast is USB3 really compared to thunderbolt.and do sample libraries need RAID + PCIe speeds. Samsung "SSD TI" over USB3 = "close to 300 MB/s" = €547 Lacie Rugged SSD over TB1 = 387 MB/s claimed? (2x 500GB =1TB) = €980Ĩ50EVO 1TB SSD with a cheap USB3 adapter. Lacie Little Big Disk (2x m2 500GB SSD = 1TB over TB2) = 500 MB/s? = €1239 Ideally Parkdale would be a little clearer on RAID usage and everyone would use it as a central database (much more reliable, cross platform and legacy OS friendly than the BlackMagic speed test IMHO)īlackMagic Multidock v2 (+ 850EVO 1TB over TB2) = 370 MB/s = €1053 Is the Lacie 1375 the real world rate though? Multidock is in my shopping basket but does not fit in my mobile rig bags :( Regardless - for how I use it the Multidock is the most flexible, plenty fast and least expensive way to add SSD storage (and alternate boot drives) for current Macs.but is that much speed necessary for Komplete, some VSL, some Play, some Spectrasonics, some Toontracks and a "small" 100 track music for picture template (not full orchestra with 6 different 3rd violins).? I have never seen data on a 3 disk raid in either the V1 or V2 Multidock to see if it ever breaks through 750MB/s. I am totally happy with my Multidock V1 but if speed is what you need - the Lacie at 1375 MB/s is 2X the speed of the Multidock (two SSDs in RAID). ![]() and then maybe I can buy the new drives that I need! let's work out the real speeds without RAID, and the real cost. Samsung "SSD TI" over USB3 = "close to 300 MB/s" Lacie Rugged SSD over TB1 = 387 MB/s claimed?Ĩ50EVO SSD with a cheap USB3 adapter. Lacie Little Big Disk (2x m2 SSD over TB2) = 500 MB/s? how to understand and balance this stuff.?īlackMagic (SSD e.g. I just asked over on another thread.īut at what point with a rMBP or new MP streaming samples is the loading speed overkill if you are using Kontakt purge, VEPro preserved and only loading once a day. I know there are faster alternatives, but AFAIK every one of them has a fan! And yeah, it's still very fast for music making but if you're composing for film you need all the loading speed you can get.Lacie LBD = 2x PCIe at 1TB over TB2. It's limited to SATA speeds, but as an owner of the new cylinder Mac Pro that has a PCIe SSD inside (around 900MB/s) I'm hoping they'd release a new version that overcomes the speed limitation. ![]() In fact that's the only thing that could be better.
